OPI Announces Hollywood ‘Holiday’ Collection
Harris Shepard, Public Relations and OPI Nail Polish
recently approached the Hollywood Chamber of
Commerce through Laurie Golden of Jacob’s Well
Public Relations about an exciting Holiday marketing
opportunity. OPI, famous for tying nail color names
to fantastic destinations, has chosen Hollywood for
its 2007 Holiday collection and they asked the
Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to help facilitate
initial discussions with Hollywood’s greatest
icons.
“This campaign comes at a time
when the Chamber’s Tourism Committee has turned its
focus towards marketing Hollywood as an end
destination,” said Elizabeth McDonald, VP of Tourism
and Special Events, “and we are looking forward to
seeing what this imaginative company comes up with.”
The businesses that are so far
involved in this project include: Grauman’s Chinese
Theatre; Hollywood & Highland; Hollywood Roosevelt
Hotel; Kodak Theatre; LA Inc., The Convention and
Visitors Bureau of Los Angeles; Red Line Tours;
Renaissance Hollywood Hotel. If you are interested
in learning more about the OPI Hollywood Holiday
Campaign, please contact Elizabeth McDonald.

Boutique Hotels Being Sought for Hollywood
The Hollywood Chamber’s Economic Development
Committee has formed a Boutique Hotel Subcommittee
to research how to attract the niche hotel market to
the community. David Gajda of Hollywood Software has
agreed to chair the effort. Gajda noted that
wherever he has traveled in the world, major tourist
centers always seem to have an abundance of small,
upscale niche hotels as an alternative to the major
chains. While Hollywood is a major tourist draw, it
has not attracted such hotels, and his subcommittee
aims to find out why not and to determine a strategy
to draw them to Hollywood. Gajda and his
subcommittee met with CRA officials to
discuss ways the Chamber and CRA could work together
on the effort.
The Chamber group has already compiled some
hotel stats and a list of
all current hotels within the district and are
honing in on some possible areas to concentrate
their efforts. Anyone with ideas or interest is
welcome to
contact Gajda or a member of the Economic
Development Committee.

Hollywood Chamber Of Commerce Hosted Hollywood
Business And Tourism Expo, September 27, 2006 at
Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce hosted its 18th
Annual Hollywood Business and Tourism EXPO on
Wednesday, September 27, at the Hollywood Roosevelt
Hotel, 7000 Hollywood Boulevard.
The 2006 Hollywood
Chamber Business and Tourism Expo drew
several hundred attendees to the historic Blossom
Room of the Roosevelt Hotel. The enthusiastic crowd
visited more than 50 Chamber-member exhibitors
booths. A straw poll in advance of the Gubernatorial
election showed that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
was favored by 50 percent of the attendees, with
Hollywood’s own honorary mayor Johnny Grant coming
in second, with a write-in count of 30 percent.
Phil Angelides came in third, with 20 percent.
“We put a new twist
on this expo by offering our attendees the chance to
experience politics from the other side of the
ballot box,” said Elizabeth McDonald, Vice President
of Tourism and Special Events for the Hollywood
Chamber of Commerce. “I mean who knows more about
networking and making connections than a good
politician?”
Presented by the Hollywood
Roosevelt Hotel, Kaiser Permanente and Element
Service, Inc., more than 50 exhibitors participated in their own campaigns to be
acknowledged as Audience Unlimited won the title of ‘Best Booth’
and left with two airline
tickets courtesy of Southwest
Airlines!
Each year the Hollywood
Business Expo brings out 300-600 attendees including
restaurant, travel and tourism media and offers a
great opportunity for sponsors, exhibitors and
attendees alike.
More than 50
exhibitors participated in the event, which featured some of Hollywood’s most popular
entertainment, hospitality, museum, boutique,
travel, restaurant, and night club and sports venues
and businesses in Southern California. There
was abundance of fine food and hors d’oeuvre
samples as well
as numerous door prizes.
